The Park City Transit Department's Reorganization Creates Three New Leadership Positions

The Park City Transit Department has repurposed two of the city’s employees with the reorganization of their department and went outside of Utah for their new transit system manager. Melissa Allison has more:

Public Works and Transit Director Blake Fonnesbeck told the city council at Thursday’s meeting, after all of their research – they created three new positions to head the three new branches of their department.

Fonnesbeck named former Parking and Fleet Administrative Supervisor Kenzie Coulson as their new transit quality manager.

“It will deal with things such as the equipment, the technologies we have, the dispatching,” Fonnesbeck said. “I want to be able to have a system that the dispatchers aren’t just somebody that came in for a little while and they’re filling in and doing what they need …the dispatchers should know that, ‘This road has construction,’ or ‘This stop has an issue today,’ or ‘The snow is happening, I want you all to be careful in this area, its slick.’”

For the transit systems manager position, Fonnesbeck says they hired someone from the south.

“So the transit system manager, I want to announce that we have hired someone to fill that position,” Fonnesbeck said. ”Her name is Barbara Murdock - she is form Birmingham, Alabama and she ran a larger transit system there.”

For the transit business manager position, Fonnesbeck took the city’s former budget and grants manager.

All three branches Fonnesbeck says, will help improve the dynamics of his department.

“We hired Kory Kersavage and he is our transit business manager as well, and so we’re excited to have him,” Fonnesbeck said.

“And so, with this team, basically what we have set up, is now under those three, there are shift supervisors that are specifically going to work in those areas,” Fonnesbeck said. “And then under the shift supervisors we have lead transit operators. Those will be the folks, and this is where the feeling like you’re part of a team, its great that they feel like part of the transit team, but its even better if they feel like they’re part of a team they see every day, they work with every day and they know that this is their piece of the pie and they’re doing their best with that. People develop pride when they know and can see what they’re doing and that what they do has an effect on the rest of it.”

Coulsen and Kersavage started their new roles about two weeks ago. Fonnesbeck says Murdock is scheduled to join the team on August 20.
