Parleys Canyon Fire Update - Wednesday August 18, 2021

8:15pm Firefighters reached 80% containment of the fire by Wednesday evening. The size of the fire is unchanged at 541 acres. Crews reported rain that fell Tuesday night and scattered throughout Wednesday helped keep the fire from spreading, allowing crews to make immense progress establishing the containment line.

Great Basin Incident Management Team #4 told KPCW the unit will leave Thursday morning, and local agencies will assume command of the fire response once again.

Trails in the Summit Park area will be closed through August 22nd for firefighter access and hiker safety.  Little Dell Recreation area will be open to the public starting Thursday.

11:30am Firefighters still can't access the fire due to the wet conditions.  Muddy roads are too dangerous for the heavy equipment.  Once they can access the site, they will continue to construct remaining fire lines needed for full containment. All lanes of I 80 are open and the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest Clousre has been lifted.

8:45am Rain overnight has helped mitigate the fire, but hampered firefighters' access to the fire site Tuesday morning.  Containment is at 40% and acreage remains at 541 acres. Due to the rain and cooler temperatures, some resources will be moved from the fire to other fires in the west.
