Probe Underway On Weekend Shooting

Summit County Sheriff's Office

Summit County Sheriff officers are still investigating an early-morning shooting north of I-80 that injured a Salt Lake Valley woman.

A press statement issued Monday by the Sheriff’s Office said that early on Sunday morning the 29th, shortly before 3:30 a.m., Dispatch received several 911 calls about multiple gunshots being heard in the Kimball Junction area.

One caller reported that dozens of cars were seen leaving a residence on Teal Drive, which is in the Spring Creek neighborhood across the Interstate from Kimball Junction.     Deputies responded to a nightly rental, where a party reportedly occurred before the shooting, and they found bullet casings at the house.
Shortly after the 911 calls, three vehicles identified from the reports were located on U.S. 40 near Silver Summit.     An officer who stopped one of the vehicles found out there was a shooting and a victim was being taken to Park City Medical center in another vehicle.

The press statement said they know that a 22-year-old Sandy woman sustained a gunshot wound to the back.   She was flown to a Salt-Lake-area hospital for treatment, but her injuries are apparently not life-threatening.

Investigators are working to determine the events that led to the shooting, who was responsible, and how many people are involved.    The statement said names will be disclosed if arrests are made in connection with the shooting.

Citizens with any information are invited to call the Sheriff’s Office at 615—3601.
