Park City Superintendent Jill Gildea has filed an incident report with the Sheriff’s Office over vandalism at her home in Jeremy Ranch. The report comes a week after the alleged incident occurred on Oct. 31.
Summit County Sheriff’s Lt. Andrew Wright says Superintendent Jill Gildea filed the report Friday, Nov. 8.
"We are happily investigating this to figure out what exactly happened, and we want the community to know that we are taking any report seriously," Wright said. "We will do our best to figure out what happened."
Wright says a deputy from the sheriff’s office was sent to Gildea’s home in Jeremy Ranch to see if there’s any evidence left of the alleged incident.
"It is a week late, a week after the incident took place, so there's a chance that if there was any type of evidence, that could be gone at this point," Wright said. "But we're definitely looking to see if we can determine how exactly the alleged vandalism took place, and hopefully have a little bit more answers as we move along in the investigation."
Wright says the sheriff’s office always recommends that any incident, vandalism or otherwise, be reported immediately, not only so law enforcement can try to catch up with the alleged perpetrator but also so they can collect evidence.
"When you go days without reporting it, the likelihood of us being able to collect any evidence does go down," Wright said. "But it doesn't mean that we won't look into it and try to figure out if there's any evidence that leads us in any direction as part of the investigation."
The Park City School District purchased Gildea’s home in 2018 for more than $800,000, to provide housing within school boundaries for Gildea and future superintendents. Park City Board of Education President Andrew Caplan told KPCW he believes social media comments around the $200,000 repairs to the home’s driveway have escalated tensions within the district.
