Per the agreement with Vail Resorts, the popular Rob’s trail in the Sun Peak neighborhood is closed and those who park at the trailhead will be cited.
With the majority of Rob’s Trail located on property leased by Vail Resorts, the ski company closes the trail during the winter months due to safety concerns.
Melissa O’Brien, the Interim Director of the Snyderville Basin Recreation District says Basin Rec staff will be ticketing those who park at the trailhead. To discourage people from parking at the horseshoe turn, O’Brien says there will be no snow plowing or snow removal at the trailhead.
“Something different this year that people need to be aware of is that we will not be plowing Rob's trailhead," OBrien said. "There's really no need to have that trailhead open if the trail is not open itself, it only just encourages people to breach that easement winter restriction. So, we will stop plowing that. We are working with the county right now to establish some signage. And what we'll do instead is that we'll devote some time to help the county enforce their winter road restrictions within the distance of the trailhead that we're able to monitor. So, we have a full time enforcement officer now on staff, and we invested in some software called Secure Park that allows us to track vehicles and violations. We've written about 60 tickets and about 75% of those are in the Sun Peak neighborhood.”

Meanwhile, O’Brien says an offer has been extended to a new district director, who will replace Brian Hanton. O’Brien says background checks are ongoing.
“So, background checks and drug testing and that type of thing," she said. "So, I think the goal is that the new director will be on mid- December - December 15 is what I'm hearing. So, I guess the next time I come down to see you will be introduced you to new director, fingers crossed.”
Basin Rec is also accepting comments on the proposed new community park next to the existing Trailside Park. It’s a 68 acre parcel of which 10 acres will be developed. Planned are two multi-purpose fields two pavilions, restrooms and 120 parking stalls. Construction is expected to start next year.
