Salt Lake Man Sentenced To 30 Days In Jail For Drunkenly Crashing His Porsche This Spring

A Salt Lake resident has been sentenced to 30 days in the Summit County Jail for speeding drunk in a Porsche down Highway 224 last spring, causing a crash for himself and another vehicle.

Under a plea agreement entered in Justice Court on Tuesday, 24-year-old William Russell Patton was also given a fine and a year on probation from Justice Court Judge Shauna Kerr.

According to court documents, Patton pled Guilty to one Count of Driving Under the Influence. A charge of Reckless Driving was dismissed. Both are Class B Misdemeanors.

A Highway Patrol report said that last May 23rd, Patton was speeding northbound on 224, between Old Ranch Road and Bear Hollow Drive, and rear-ended a vehicle in front of him. The two passengers in the front vehicle, residents of Wanship, were not injured.

The defendant was sentenced to 180 days in jail, but 150 days of that was suspended. He was ordered to report immediately to the county jail Tuesday morning.

Patton was also ordered to pay a fine of $1650, in installments from January to November. During the year of probation, he will submit to tests to make sure he’s free of drugs or alcohol, and has to maintain an ignition interlock device on his car.
