Utah set its second highest benchmark for COVID-19 cases Saturday, with 269 more cases than the day before, or 2.9%. That brings the state total for positive cases to 9,533.
The state reported its highest ever daily increase Friday with 343 new cases. State epidemiologist Dr. Angela Dunn said the higher numbers could be due to testing trends and isolated outbreaks and urged Utahns to continue wearing face masks and staying home when they feel ill.
Also, on Saturday the state reported five more deaths due to COVID-19, one was previously reported but was under further investigation by the Office of the Medical Examiner. Of the four new fatalities, three were in Salt Lake County and one was in Weber County. All four had underlying medical conditions. There have been 112 total deaths in Utah due to COVID-19.
Wasatch County had seven new cases reported Saturday, for a total of 272. Summit County’s cases remained at 412. Neither county had any new hospitalizations due to COVID-19.
