Saturday COVID-19 Update: 22 Deaths Announced, Utah Nears Three-Quarters of a Million Vaccine Doses

22 COVID-19 deaths were reported by the Utah Department of Health on Saturday.

Saturday’s report brings the statewide death toll from the disease to 1,929. None of Saturday’s deaths were from either Summit or Wasatch Counties.

19 of the 22 deaths occurred before February 6th, according to the Health Department. The reporting of official COVID-19 deaths can sometimes take weeks as the deaths of individuals who were not hospitalized at the time of their death are investigated and confirmed to have died of COVID-19. 17 of the deaths were either not hospitalized or long-term care facility residents.

The Health Department also reported 686 new positive cases, continuing a now 10-day streak of less than 1,000 cases statewide. Summit County reported 13 cases for the second day in a row on Saturday, Wasatch County reported seven.

The Statewide seven-day average of positive tests has now dropped to 681 from 694 on Friday.

Statewide averages for the percent of positive laboratory tests have dropped as well with the people over people average now at -12.2% and the tests over tests average at 5.5%.

Across the state, there are currently 223 people hospitalized with the disease, eight fewer than Friday. Statewide COVID-19 referral center ICUs are currently 75.7% full.

Vaccinations continued statewide with the Health Department reporting an additional 19,757 doses administered, bringing the total number of doses administered in the state to 702,293.
