Utah had another troubling day on Saturday for positive COVID-19 tests with 2,956 cases reported.
Saturday’s numbers reflect little change from Friday’s record setting day of COVID-19 cases. Friday’s record of 2,987 cases was just 31 more than Saturday’s count of 2,956.
Summit County’s numbers dipped slightly with the county reporting 26 new cases on Saturday, while Wasatch County set a new record of 35 new cases.
The statewide rolling seven-day average of positive cases is now at 2,213 per day and the average of positive laboratory tests is 19.9%. Both of those numbers increased since Friday.
The Utah Department of Health also reported nine additional deaths, all individuals over the age of 45. None of the new deaths were from either Summit or Wasatch County.
There are 410 people currently hospitalized with the disease in Utah, a new record, and 76.6% of ICU beds in the state are currently occupied.
Governor Gary Herbert held emergency meetings on Saturday with the state’s COVID-19 taskforce and said on Friday to expect additional policies to combat the virus in the coming days.
Summit and Wasatch County both remain as high transmission areas in the state. Masks are required in public and gatherings are limited to fewer than 10 people.
