Search Efforts Continue For Missing Wasatch County Man

Wasatch County Sheriff's Office

Wasatch County’s Sheriff Office and community members are looking for a 53-year-old Wasatch County Resident last seen over 2 weeks ago.

Community members have searched far and wide across Wasatch County for Chad West, who was last seen Dec. 11.

Julie Givens, a friend of West, created a Facebook group called Searching for Chad. Her hope is that the group will help connect the community to post ideas and keep track of areas already searched.

She said they’ve contained their search within Wasatch County for now.

"He just never usually leaves town," Givens said. "His motto is there's no reason to leave either side of the dam, Bear Creek Dam to Jordanelle Dam. You know, he just doesn't leave Heber."

The Facebook group has garnered over 180 members. Givens said because West is a long time resident, he’s well known in the community.

"He's lived here for, I'm guessing 35 years, at least," she said. "He worked at a local gas station delivering propane and fuel all over the county, up to Strawberry everywhere that needed fuel, you know, distributed and then everybody who visited the gas stations... Everybody used to know everybody around here, you know?"

Givens said it’s unlike West to leave for a long period of time without asking someone to look after his pets.

"And the big thing is, you know, I mean he lives by himself," she said. "He has free will. He does everything on his own. But he never leaves his animals unattended. He has multiple people that he could call in a heartbeat. Say, you know, it's a text that says ‘hey, I need to take care of my animals.’ And his animals were left unattended."

Presumably, West left his house in a 2001 Ford F-250, black pick-up truck, with a license plate that reads “WESTLND.” Givens said West didn’t take his wallet or phone with him. Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office wouldn’t confirm details on missing personal property.

Because he didn’t take any personal belongings and left his animals alone, Givens said it’s likely West left to run a quick errand.

"My thought is that he has just ran somewhere to go do something real quick and just went off the road," she said. "I mean, granted that there wasn't snow on the road, the day he disappeared. But that doesn't mean the roads weren’t slick."

Wasatch County Search and Rescue opened a case Tuesday, and an individual offered his private plane to assist search and rescue. However, the search was unsuccessful.
