The South Summit Fire District reported that a controlled burn got out of control for a while Friday afternoon.
The district said they responded to the call at about 2:20 pm. An incident report from the Summit County sheriff’s office said the burn jumped the road in the area of New Lane and Cottonwood Lane and started burning a thick stand of cottonwood trees. Homeowners were notified, but an evacuation was not implemented.
The Fire District said they were assisted by county deputies, the state Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands and the Forest Service.
The blaze was contained at about 4:00 pm.
