Streak Of Robberies Has Local Law Enforcment On The Lookout

Summit County Sheriff's Department

A series of burglaries last week has law enforcement on the lookout for the offender.

In the early morning of January 27th, a single individual entered Zupas Café at Kimball Junction. Summit County Sheriff Lt. Andrew Wright says the suspect used black spray paint to cover security cameras before cutting into the safe and taking the entirety of the contents, which was reported as a small amount of money.

“We have some surveillance of the individual inside Zupas,” Wright said. “He had ski goggles, a mask, gloves, and basically a picture of him getting ready to spray the surveillance camera with black spray paint. So, we don't have a good idea of who it is other than it looks like someone that's kind of a heavier weight individual. We assume that it's a male.”

Lt. Wright says they are also investigating if this individual is connected to a robbery that occurred later that same morning. According to the sheriff’s department a man entered Dana’s Café about 7 o’clock and was observed on camera going through the upstairs portion of the restaurant and looking through areas that are not open to customers. The owner of the restaurant said the suspect broke the lock to a refrigerator, but nothing is believed to have been taken from the restaurant.

A break-in also occurred at a Main Street business that same weekend, but Park City police are not commenting on that incident as they say it is an ongoing investigation. Lt. Wright says they’re still investigating the relationship of these break-ins.

“I don’t know that we have had any information come in that it's linked to any other jurisdictions,” Wright continued. “We just know that we and Park City police handled these break ins that seem to all be related to the same person.”
