Summit County Changes Services After Governor Herbert's Covid Order

Summit County has announced a number of changes in their services, in response to Governor Gary Herbert’s new COVID-19 Executive Order.

The county’s statement on Tuesday is a counterpart to a similar announcement from Park City Municipal.

The county’s announcement came after the Governor’s declaration of a state of emergency on November 8th, in response to rising COVID cases and an increasing shortage of hospital beds.

The complete statement, with details, is available on the Summit County website.

The county’s announcement says that in many cases, employees are working remotely.  Citizens are advised to contact them by e-mail or phone.    In some departments, staff can be directly contacted by appointment only, or will be available on an as-needed basis.

For instance, the Community Development Department, Planning and Building, has operating hours, but their offices are not open to the public.    On site inspections will continue, and can be scheduled through the county’s E360 Building Permit program.

County Library facilities continue to be closed to the public.   But curbside delivery, of materials that have been put on hold, is available at all County Library locations.    Bookmobile service is suspended until Monday, November 30th.   In addition, the county’s digital library is open 24/7.

The Sheriff’s Office will have a front-office staffer assisting with walk-ins from 8 to 5.   At the Silver Creek Justice Center, criminal court proceedings are being conducted remotely.    One prosecutor per week is on call to answer calls from the public, lawyers and law enforcement.

And November is the time for property tax payments.    Staffers at the Treasurer’s office can provide services by phone or e-mail.   The county has three drop-box locations—at the Richins Building at Kimball Junction, outside the DMV office; in South Summit, near the Senior Center entrance at the Kamas Services Building; and at the Coalville Courthouse, the south entrance near the ADA ramp.

In Tuesday’s statement, County Manager Tom Fisher said they’re  doing their part to slow the spread of the virus.    He added, “We ask for the community’s patience during this time and are committed to maintaining the same level of service in or out of the office.”
