Among the items for Summit County Council in their regular meeting Wednesday, they will hear from their library system, and from one of Park City’s major resorts.
The council meets at the Coalville Courthouse. Shortly before 5:00 pm, they will get an update from their library director, Dan Compton.
The county’s library system, along with Park City, is moving to a fine-free operation. County manager Tom Fisher noted that it’s a nation-wide trend.
“They see, because of the range of cliental that they see from economic levels, there’s a barrier to folks who have to pay fines if they’re late returning materials,” Fisher explained. “On the opposite end of that for about $10,000-15,000 worth of revenue each year. Quite a bit of administrative burden when you’re only collecting perhaps 10 cents per day on a book. Those two things put together if we don’t want to cause barriers to people accessing the library and wanting people to use those services. I think the council listened to the librarians and wanted to make that change.”
Later on, at 5:45, they will get an introductory visit from the new COO of Deer Valley, Todd Shallan.
Related to that, we asked if the resort will be part of Summit and Wasatch County discussion over the Jordanelle area.
“It’s probably necessary that we have them in the mix just because they are a big part of the development that’s going to happen in that area,” Fisher said. “Don’t know what form that’s going to take yet. We haven’t had any formal conversations with Wasatch County yet to outline where we’re taking our discussions next.”
Also, on the agenda, the council will interview five applicants for two positions on the East County Planning Commission. One of the existing Planning Commissioners is Tonja Hanson, who is term-limited off the panel. The other incumbent is Rich Sonntag has chosen to re-apply.
The council will also vote on filling two positions on the Snyderville Planning Commission, after they interviewed applicants last week.
