Summit County Library Buildings to Remain Closed Until More Staff Can Be Vaccinated

Summit County

The Park City Library has re-opened this week, but Summit County’s library system is not ready to do the same.

County Manager Tom Fisher says that posture is necessary, due to the year-long pandemic.

Fisher said on Tuesday that their situation, and that of their staff, is somewhat different from Park City.

“We’re the lead agency on distributing vaccine, as well as coordinating all of the activities around the emergency,” he said. “We’re very protective of our staff. And what I mean by that is, we need to be able to move staff around, and other types of resources, in order to be able to cover down on all we’re doing above our normal duties.”

He explained why they’re holding back on some services.

“Since most of our staff has not been vaccinated yet, or gone through the process of their vaccinations and building immunity, we are still holding back a little bit on some of those services," he said. "The typical ones that people talk about are the library and our senior centers. And we will do that until we can safely protect the staff from any spread, so that we don’t lose them all at once.”

Known for getting all the facts right, as well as his distinctive sign-off, Rick covered Summit County meetings and issues for 35 years on KPCW. He now heads the Friday Film Review team.
