Summit County is easing its restrictions and is nowallowing restaurants to offer in-house delivery service starting Thursday.
The original health department order issued March 14th prohibited restaurants from providing or starting new delivery services in the early days of the COVID-19 response to slow the spread. Pick up of restaurant meals was limited to curb-side service only. Following an appeal to the health order, the health department has agreed to a series of guidelines to allow permitted restaurants in the county to deliver food directly to the doorsteps - including those who are unable to leave their homes due to health, transportation or other limitations.
In a press release, Public Health Deputy Director Phil Bondurant said, it has always been his goal to restore service as soon as it was safely possible to do so. He anticipates this will be the first of several announcements in the coming weeks that will open additional operations in the county. He added it’s vital that the community continues to practice social distancing and other measures to allow for these openings to stand.
Trained and certified restaurant staff must adhere to the Summit County Health Code’s delivery protocols and standards. It includes compliance with the social distancing orders found in the Joint Public Health Order 2020-03.
Third party food delivery is still prohibited until further notice.
