Summit County Recorder Candidate Brings Legal And Leadership Experience

Park City-area resident Alex Natt, who is running for County Recorder from outside the Recorders office, says he will bring the expertise of his 21-year legal career, work with U.S. Ski and Snowboard and other leadership skills to the county position.

Summit County Democratic delegates are meeting Thursday night to choose a candidate for the November ballot, to replace Mary Ann Trussell, who resigned as Recorder in June.

The two candidates are Rhonda Francis, a veteran staffer and the current acting Recorder, and Alex Natt.

In a questionnaire replying to the local Democratic Committee, he wrote that he’s been practicing law in the county since 1997, first with Strachan and Strachan and later with Jones Waldo.

He wrote that while he hasn’t worked specifically in the position of Recorder/Surveyor, he doesn’t think that disqualifies him for the county position. He said “Throughout my career I have had occasion to review land records, plats and other public documents to adequately represent my clients in various land use and litigation matter.”

Natt wrote that with his legal training, he is best positioned to work with the current staff to evaluate new and different methods to improve the Recorder’s office.

He noted that he’s also been Executive Vice-President and Chief Legal Officer of the United States Ski and Snowboard Association. He also worked on a national Olympic steering committee that created an independent body charged with investigating and judging claims of athlete abuse.

Natt said he is detail-oriented, diligent and a quick study.

The county Democrats are meeting Thursday, starting at 6:00 pm in the third-floor conference room of the Park City Library.
