Summit County Sheriff Department Arrests Man After Driving The Wrong Way On Highway 40

Summit County Sheriff's Office

After the recent incidents reported by the Summit County Sheriff’s office, the apprehension of a wrong-way driver on Highway 40 led to the arrest of another suspect on drug charges.

And a threat made against a store worker at Kimball Junction led to a trio of drug arrests.

The Sheriff’s department reported that earlier this month, on the 16th, dispatch got several calls that a driver was heading the wrong way on U.S. 40. He was detained about eight miles south of Silver Creek Junction.

Sheriff’s Lt. Andrew Wright said there were no collisions, and it was likely fortunate the incident occurred early in the morning, shortly after 6:00 am.

The driver admitted consuming meth a few hours prior. He told deputies he was going to meet another person to obtain drugs.

Based on a vehicle description given by the first driver, a suspect was pulled over near the Tollgate exit on Interstate 80. A canine officer signaled a positive on the vehicle, and a search found over six pounds of methamphetamine, plus drug paraphernalia.

Officers booked the wrong-way driver identified as a 19-year-old male and the second motorist, a 30-year-old man. Both were from Fort Collins, Colorado.

On another item, from June 20th, officers heard from a 67-year-old Henefer resident that a hacker had obtained his email address, and from that had evidently obtained his bank information. He said that $90,000 that was supposed to be deposited in his account went to the suspect’s account.

Lt. Wright said they didn’t have a lot of information to go on about a suspect. He advised citizens to have strong passwords on their accounts and to change them often.

Finally, officers got a complaint last Sunday the 23rd from an employee at T.J. Maxx. The woman said that the day before, a suspect who had been accused of shoplifting had threatened her.

She said when she went back the next day, the suspect threatened her again in the parking lot. He and two other people were in a vehicle and appeared to be living in the car.

When officers made contact, a meth pipe was visible in plain view in the car, and a search found methamphetamine and paraphernalia.

Officers arrested the three suspects. The man who made the alleged threats was 38 years old, from Salt Lake. His two companions were a 31-year-old woman, who had some outstanding warrants, and a 28-year-old man, both from Heber. Lt. Wright said the car, registered to a Midway resident, was towed.
