Sunday COVID-19 Update: Statewide Cases Stay High Depite Holiday; Summit, Wasatch See Decline

Despite the holiday weekend, Utah saw 1,819 new cases Sunday - which is more than twice the amount of cases the state saw after last weekend’s holiday break.

 

  

Summit County saw 11 new cases, and in comparison, last Sunday Summit reported 16 new cases.

Wasatch County reported 9 new cases. Last Sunday, the county saw 12.

Utah’s Department of Health reported seven new deaths Sunday. To date, 1,301 Utahns have died of COVID-19, including five from Summit County and 15 from Wasatch County.

The state saw an increase of 4,802 new tests administered. The statewide 7-day rolling average for positive tests over 29% which is up from Saturday’s average.

Summit County’s seven-day average of positive laboratory tests is 20.5%, and nearly 25% of tests are coming back positive on average in Wasatch County. 

Utah’s Department of Health reported 58 new hospitalizations. There are 486people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Statewide, over 86% of referral center ICU beds are in use, which is down from Saturday. 

Just over 1,000 people were vaccinated for COVID-19 since Saturday, bringing the total number to 47,382 first doses administered. The state has received more than 127,000 doses of vaccines.
