Three Park City residents have filed to fill the unexpired term of school board member Phil Kaplan. That person is expected to be named next week.
Due to some scheduling issues, the Park City school board has pushed back open interviews of the three candidates, who have filed to fill the unexpired term of Phil Kaplan in District 1.
The applicants include former teacher, union negotiator and sports agent Tommy Tanzer who is currently a member of the Park City Education Foundation. Tanzer lives in Deer Valley and has lived in Park City since 1978.
James Meyer has been an educator for nearly 30 years. He is the former head of school for the Oakley School and more recently the founder Meyer Education and Family Services where he specializes in boarding school and therapeutic placements. He has lived in Prospector since 1998. Meyer had filed for school board in a similar situation a couple of years ago when Moe Hickey resigned from the board after moving out of the district. At that time, the school board selected Phil Kaplan, who went on to run for election unopposed in last year’s election. Meyer has three children who went through Park City schools – the last one graduates high school this week.
The third candidate is Anne Peters founder of Crosspointe Designs, which provides brand conceptualization and product design and development. Prior to that she served as Senior Vice President of Sundance Catalog where she developed the brand. She moved to town in 2001, lives in Old Town and has a 4th grader.
All three candidates will be interviewed by the school board on Thursday between 1 and 3 pm.
According to district spokeswoman Molly Miller, a special regular session has been scheduled for next Tuesday, June 13 at 9 am to announcement the new board member who will serve until the 2018 school board election.
