Thursday COVID-19 Update: Utah COVID-19 Cases Continue to Decline Week Over Week

Utah’s COVID-19 cases continue to decrease week over week.

The Utah Department of Health announced 611 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, which is about 200 fewer cases than the state saw at the same time last week.

During his weekly COVID-19 briefing, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox says new cases have been down everyday compared to the previous week. 

"Every day this week, our cases have been down over last week," Cox said. "We continue to see a 10-30% decrease almost every day, week over week."

Percent positivity for COVID-19 tests are also down since last week. On average about 5% of “tests over tests” are coming back positive down almost a whole percent since last week. The average percent positivity for “people over people” is 10%, down 2.5%.  

There were 7,286 people tested for the first time, with 8,363 total tests administered. 

Summit County reported nine new cases, In comparison, last Thursday, Summit saw 26. 

Wasatch County reported four new cases. Last Thursday, the county saw six.  

Utah’s Department of Health reported 12 new deaths, but noted that seven of the deaths happened before Feb. 11. To date, 1,965 Utahns have died due to COVID-19, including 10 from Summit County and 20 from Wasatch County.

The department also reported 33 new hospitalizations. There are 203 people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Around 73.5% of all referral center ICU beds are in use.

There were 25,990 people were vaccinated for COVID-19 since Wednesday, bringing the total number to 785,523 doses administered. 

Summit County is registering to vaccinate residents 40-years or older and people with certain underlying medical conditions. Wasatch County is registering people 50-years or older and those with certain medical conditions.
