Thursday COVID-19 Update: Utah Ramps Up Testing, Sees 2,742 New Cases

  Utah has continued to ramp up COVID-19 testing without seeing a significant spike in cases.

The Utah Department of Health announced 2,742 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, which is over 1,800 less cases than the state saw at the same time last week.

The state saw an increase of 16,231 new tests administered. 

Summit County reported 55 new cases. Last Thursday Summit County set a new record of positive cases in a day with 76.

Wasatch County reported 38 new cases. In comparison, last Thursday, the county saw 43.

The statewide 7-day rolling average for positive tests is 26% which is down from Wednesday’s average.

Summit County’s seven-day average of positive laboratory tests is over 26%, and under 27% of tests are coming back positive on average in Wasatch County. 

Utah’s Department of Health reported 11 new deaths. To date, 1,460 Utahns have died due to COVID-19, including six from Summit County and 16 from Wasatch County.

Utah’s Department of Health reported 89 new hospitalizations. There are 559people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Statewide, almost 97% of referral center ICU beds are in use, which is up from Wednesday. 

8,318 people were vaccinated for COVID-19 since Wednesday, bringing the total number to 133,202 first doses administered. Both Summit and Wasatch Counties started vaccinating teachers this week.
