Tuesday COVID-19 Update: Summit County Sees Second COVID-19 Death This Week

Summit County reported another COVID-19 death Tuesday, the second COVID-19 death in one week.

The Summit County man who died of COVID-19 was between 45-64 years-old, and was hospitalized at the time of his death. Summit County has now seen ten COVID-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic. 

The Summit County resident was one of nine deaths reported by the Utah Department of Health. They noted two of the deaths were from before Feb. 9, but didn’t specify which two. To date, 1,949 Utahns have died due to COVID-19.

Utah saw 487 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, which is about 200 fewer cases than the state saw at the same time last week. 

There were 5,582 people tested for the first time, with 14,540 total tests administered. On average about 5% of “tests over tests” are coming back positive, while the percent positivity for “people over people” is 10.5%.  

Summit County reported 11 new cases. In comparison, last Tuesday, Summit saw 12.

Wasatch County reported seven new cases. Last Tuesday, the county saw three.

The department also reported 29 new hospitalizations. There are 213 people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Around 70.5% of all referral center ICU beds are in use.  

A reported, 20,268 people were vaccinated for COVID-19 since Monday, bringing the total number to 741,297 doses administered. Both Summit and Wasatch Counties are registering to vaccinate residents 65-years or older and people with certain underlying medical conditions.
