Two COVID Deaths Reported Friday in Wasatch Back

KPCW

The Utah Department of Health reported one Summit County death and one Wasatch County death due to COVID Friday.

In Wasatch County, a man between the ages of 65-84 died. In Summit County, a woman in that same age range died. Both were hospitalized at the time of their death.

That brings the total number of COVID deaths since the pandemic began to 16 in Summit County and 23 in Wasatch County.

Wasatch County’s transmission level remains ranked as high by the state, while Summit County’s is still ranked as moderate.

Statewide, Friday’s numbers also reflected 1,116 new cases of COVID. Of those, 216 are school-aged children. 81 of those cases are in children aged 5-10 years old, 50 cases among children aged 11-13, and 85 cases in children aged 14-18.

The health department reports that over the past month, unvaccinated people who contract COVID are nearly six times more likely to die of the virus than fully vaccinated people who get COVID.

In Utah right now, 419 people are hospitalized with COVID. The ICU at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City is 100 % full, hospital officials said Friday.
