Two Neighbors Rescue Woman From Burning Building In Heber Valley

Wasatch County Fire

A woman is in critical but stable condition after a house in Wasatch County exploded in flames Friday night.

Wasatch County Fire officials report that around 7:00 pm they received an alert that a home had exploded on Lake Pines Drive at Timber Lakes development, East of Heber.

A woman and her four children had come to the cabin to spend the weekend. When they arrived she entered the garage and noticed a gas smell. The children remained in the car while the woman went inside to discover the cause of the smell. Not long after there was an explosion. Neighbors heard the explosion and saw flames coming out of the home. Two men who lived nearby rushed to the home and heard the woman calling for help. The men went inside the burning home, with no safety gear and found the woman trapped under a beam. The men were able to lift the beam off of her and take her to safety.

The woman was treated at the scene but was unable to be flown by helicopter to a hospital due to the storm. The woman was transported to Heber Valley Hospital and later by Life Flight ground transport to Salt Lake City. The woman reportedly was suffering from burns and trauma from the collapse of the structure.

Fire fighting units arrived to find the cabin completely engulfed in flames. A winter storm with fierce winds made things more difficult for the firefighters as they battled against poor road conditions and low visibility before they were able to get the flames under control.

Crews reamined on the scene during the night.
