Two Wasatch Back Teens Arrested For Fashion Place Mall Shooting

Two young men from the Wasatch Back have been arrested in connection to the Sunday shooting at the Fashion Place Mall in Murray.

Murray Police officers arrested Jorge Luis Crecencio-Gonzalez and Jesus Joshua Payan-Mendoza, both 19-year-old residents of the Wasatch Back late Sunday night in connection to the shooting at Fashion Place Mall that took place earlier on Sunday.

Detective Kenny Bass spokesman for the Murray Police Department reports that the two gang members ran into a rival gang at the mall. Detective Bass says a verbal altercation took place inside the mall before the opposing gang members went outside and both groups exchanged gun fire. Two gang members were hit, a man and a woman who were both taken to a hospital. The woman has since been released but the man remains at the hospital in critical condition.

Both of the teenagers were arrested for two counts of Aggravated Murder a first-degree felony, and two counts of Felony Discharge of a Firearm a third-degree felony.

Both of the teenagers have several previous traffic violations but no previous violent charges.

Crecencio-Gonzalez has nine previous traffic charges dating from Summer 2016 to Summer 2018. Five of his charges took place in Summit and Wasatch Counties. One of those includes driving 91 in a 65 zone in Wasatch County. All nine of his cases included a charge for never obtaining a license. According to the probable cause statement Crecencio-Gonzalez drove the vehicle the men fled in.

Jesus Joshua Payan-Mendoza was pulled over twice in November 2018 once by the Wasatch County Sheriff’s office and once by Heber Police both times he was charged with driving with an expired license.
