The Utah Department of Transportation will hold off on an election of whether to build a noise wall after recieving lots of public feedback. Offiicals say they want to ensure that everyone can be heard.
In an email to KPCW, UDOT said it is still reviewing all of the input it has received on plans to build a 3,000 foot long concrete wall 18 feet tall along the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 between the Jeremy Ranch on-ramp and Hidden Cover Road. The announcement comes following an open house earlier this month where residents learned that that the decision of whether to build a wall would be made by about 24 property owners living closest to the proposed wall. The wall project was floated after a study that showed the traffic noise would increase as a result of the construction of the climbing lane project that is set for next spring.
UDOT says it’s coordinating with Summit County officials and will reschedule the balloting process to take place later this summer in order to ensure all public inquiries are addressed.
The vote was scheduled to take place at the end of June, but that will no longer be the case. Project manager John Montoya says UDOT is scheduled to meet with the Summit County Council in July.
If voted in, the noise wall would be constructed in conjunction with the climbing lane and wildlife bridge project in 2018.
