A former member of the U.S. Nordic Ski Team, the first program director at the Utah Olympic Sports Park and local businessman Jeff Volmrich died of complications of cancer and pneumonia Wednesday. He was 57.
Jeff Volmrich grew up in Lake Placid, New York - at the time one of the few ski jumping facilities in the country. He competed as a ski jumper for the U.S. Ski Team from 1982 to 1986 while attending St. Lawrence University.
He moved to Park City in 1992 to work at what was known as the Utah Winter Sports Park – now the Utah Olympic Park ? to start the youth jumping programs and begin developing future Olympic talent. As the program director and coach, he created the Town Jumping series, allowing local jumper wannabes to compete on the park’s training hills.
Volmrich and his wife Fiona started Destination VIP – an events company providing global meeting planning expertise, which they ran for 13 years. He then served as COO of VIPER, which made cloud-based sale and program management tools for destination management companies.
More recently, Volmrich started hosting a podcast - ATBS – that stands for All Things Big and Small - a podcast for the curious and open-minded.
He is survived by his wife and their two daughters as well as many friends. No word yet on a memorial service.
