COVID-19 vaccine supply has begun to outweigh the demand. That’s why Utah Governor Spencer Cox announced a new initiative to bring mobile vaccine clinics to community organizations.
"And now we want to take this fight, we want to take it to the people, we want to make it as easy as possible, we want to take away any excuses for not being able to get the vaccine," Cox said.
Cox said any type of organization can request to hold a clinic, including businesses, churches or community based organizations. Next week, he says the state will set aside a third of their allocated doses to help with the effort.
State Epidemiologist Angela Dunn said this will help expand accessibility to new groups of people.
"Of course, the mass vaccination sites, we saw a huge uptake really, really quickly, because that's kind of your low hanging fruit, everybody who is very comfortable to get vaccinated, and they're okay going to mass vaccination sites," Dunn said. "And now we're ready to transition to making it easier for people who, you know, might not want to get vaccinated as readily as kind of the initial surge of people wanting to get vaccinated."
