Wasatch County Council To Discuss Airport Expansion And Development South Of The Jordanelle

Wasatch County Council meet Wednesday afternoon to discuss amongst other things the airport, and a development near the Jordanelle.

Council members meet in a regular session at 3:00 pm in the county administration building located at 25 North Main in Heber.

Among items on the agenda are awarding of Pickle Ball bids, as well as declarations for Mental Health awareness and Building Safety months.

The council also has on the agenda a discussion and possible update to a previous resolution regarding Airport expansion. The Wasatch County Council passed a resolution in June of 2016 that stated the county opposes any expansion of the Heber Airport from a BII to a CII standard

The Heber Airport continues to be a topic of concern for Heber Valley residents as the city is in the beginning stages of an update to the Airport’s Master Plan.

City officials have emphasized that the Master plan outcome is not predetermined and is not a license for expansion.

The Wasatch County Council also has on their agenda a discussion surrounding the Benloch Ranch development. The development is located south of the Jordanelle just off State Road 32. The Benloch Ranch development is made up of three previous approved master plans.

The council will be discussing the resort village area which was part of the original Talisman development. That Talisman master plan had retail, hotels, a golf course and private ski resort. The new Benloch Ranch development is proposing instead a Fireside Resort, which would have 250, detached pre-manufactured units. The 400-square foot units would have individual bathrooms and kitchens and would be used for short-term rental.

The discussion will revolve around if the applicant will have to go through a new master plan process if it is determined that the proposal does not comply with the original master plan.
