Wednesday COVID-19: 518 New Cases Statewide, 5 in Summit County, 4 in Wasatch

  After four days of increases in COVID-19 cases week over week, Utah saw a decrease Wednesday.

The Utah Department of Health announced 518 new COVID-19 cases, which is about 70 fewer cases than the state saw at the same time last week.

In the Wasatch Back, Summit County reported five new cases. In comparison last Wednesday the county saw eight. Wasatch County reported four new cases - twice as many as last Wednesday. 

There were 7,116 people tested for the first time statewide, with 16,703 total tests administered. On average more than 3% of “tests over tests” are coming back positive, while the average percent positivity for “people over people” is over 6%. 

The Utah Department of Health reported four new deaths. To date, 2,190 Utahns have died due to COVID-19, including 12 from Summit County and 21 from Wasatch County.

There are 141 people in the hospital for COVID-19, statewide. Around 75% of all referral center ICU beds are in use.

There were 24,712 people vaccinated for COVID-19 since Tuesday, bringing the total number to 2,097,937 doses administered.  

Summit County has administered 43,615 total vaccines and Wasatch has given out 21,883 doses.

Park City Hospital has COVID-19 vaccination appointments available Friday, April 30. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. 

Both Summit and Wasatch Counties are in the moderate level of Utah’s COVID-19 transmission index.
