Utah saw a significant increase in COVID-19 cases week over week Wednesday.
The Utah Department of Health announced 590 new COVID-19 cases, which is 60 more cases than the state saw at the same time last week.
In the Wasatch Back, both Summit and Wasatch Counties saw decreases in case counts week over week.
Summit County reported eight new cases. In comparison last Wednesday the county saw 11.
Wasatch County reported two new cases - which is significantly down from last Wednesday when the county saw eight cases.
There were 4,057 people tested for the first time statewide, with
15,496 total tests administered. On average 3% of “tests over tests” are coming back positive, while the average percent positivity for “people over people” is around 6%.
The Utah Department of Health reported three new deaths.To date, 2,177 Utahns have died due to COVID-19, including 11 from Summit County and 21 from Wasatch County.
There are 146 people in the hospital for COVID-19, statewide. Around 65% of all referral center ICU beds are in use.
There were 34,472 people vaccinated for COVID-19 since Tuesday, bringing the total number to 1,950,849 doses administered.
Summit County has administered 40,658 total vaccines and Wasatch has given out 20,487 doses.
Both counties are in the moderate level of Utah’s COVID-19 transmission index.
