Wednesday COVID-19 Update: Almost 760,000 Total Vaccinations, Park City Hospital Gets J&J Vaccine

Of the almost 760,000 COVID-19 doses administered throughout Utah, almost 13,000 were administered in Summit County and more than 8,400 were in Wasatch County.

There were more than 18,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered since Tuesday. Summit and Wasatch Counties are registering to vaccinate residents 65 or older and people with certain underlying medical conditions.

The Utah Department of Health has partnered with Intermountain Healthcare along with other providers to help vaccinate Utah residents. The Park City Hospital will be offering the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine to eligible people starting Thursday for this week only - the following two weeks they will not have the J & J vaccine.

Utah saw 729 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, which is about 100 fewer cases than the state saw at the same time last week.

There were 8,249 people tested for the first time, with 21,267 total tests administered. The 7-day rolling average for “tests over tests” positivity is about 5%, while the average percent positivity for “people over people” is around 10%.

Summit County reported 10 new cases. In comparison, last Wednesday, Summit saw 14.

Utah’s Department of Health reported seven new deaths, but noted that five of the deaths are from before Feb. 10. To date, 1,955 Utahns have died due to COVID-19, including 10 from Summit County and 20 from Wasatch County.

The department also reported 30 new hospitalizations. There are 212 people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Around 75% of all ICU beds are in use.

Editor's Note: This story has been corrected. The Park City Hospital will only have the J & J vaccine this week. The following two weeks they will not get any doses of the vaccine.
