Wednesday COVID-19 Update: Summit County Reports Second COVID-19 Related Death In One Week

Summit County reported another COVID-19 related death Wednesday. This is the second death in the county in just one week.

Utah’s Department of Health reported nine new deaths, bringing the total number to 740 since the start of the pandemic. One of the reported deaths is a Summit County woman who was between the ages of 65-84. She was not hospitalized at the time of her death.

Summit County has seen three COVID-19 related deaths since the start of the pandemic, and Wasatch County has reported 10.

The state department of health announced 3,071 new COVID-19 cases. The 7-day rolling average of new cases is now 3,161 per day, this time last week the average was 2,584 daily cases. 

Summit County saw 24 new cases, and last Wednesday - for comparison - Summit reported 26 new infections.

And in Wasatch County, the health department reported 34 new cases, last Wednesday the county saw 22.

Summit County’s seven-day average of positive laboratory tests is currently at 17.6%, and  19.5% of tests are coming back positive in Wasatch County. The percent for positive test results in the state is 24.1%. Only a month ago, the state’s average of positive tests was 14.2%.

Utah’s Department of Health reported 119 new hospitalizations Wednesday. There are 541 people in the hospital for COVID-19 in the state. This time last week there were 446 people hospitalized.

Under new health orders from Governor Gary Herbert, masks are required indefinitely and all social gatherings between different households are off limits until Nov. 23.
