Some observers have said that, even after the era of the Covid Pandemic comes to a close, some aspects of modern life will be changed for good.
As an example, Summit County Manager Tom Fisher predicts that while the County Council will someday resume meeting in person, Zoom meetings won’t go away entirely.
Fisher said it’s possible that in about half a year, the County will get back to live meetings.
But he said they’ve learned a lot about the Zoom technology, and how it can help improve public access.
“We’ve learned a lot concerning the broadcast of meetings, and what we can do to increase public involvement, and just those who can listen in on meetings when we have them provided electronically. So we would like to do that in the future, even though we might move to a live format. So we’re figuring that part out. And of course that has an implication in regards to the technology with where we meet. We have to make some decisions about, do we have a duplicate system both in the Snyderville Basin and in Coalville for those meetings? Or do we do it in one place? We haven’t figured that part out yet. But I would imagine we’ll be looking towards mid-year or sometime soon after as we know more about the roll-out of vaccines and when we’ll have some levels of immunity within our community and within the state in order to project when those live meetings will happen again.”
