Yoga For Service In Wasatch County Hopes To Raise $3,000 To Feed Their Kids

Marty Harger

The inaugural Yoga For Service event in Heber Valley is an effort to raise money for the Wasatch High School Food Pantry which serves more than 700 students. Melissa Allison has more:

Due to the growth in Heber City, the school district no longer qualifies for the Weekend Backpack program which provides food for children that might otherwise go hungry.

The event is on October 12 and 13 and Yoga For Service Organizer Marty Harger said, it gives people an opportunity to explore yoga while helping to feed the community’s children.

“Whether you’re just getting started and a beginner, or you have a very advanced practice, we have over 12 different instructors that will be teaching different types of workshops," Harger said. "And for just $49, people can attend and have a fantastic experience exploring new forms of yoga. And also, getting to see what’s available in the valley.”

Harger said they’re offering more than yoga at the event.

“We have community classes on Friday evening, we’ll have two different session that night. But Saturday we have simultaneous workshops happening for different levels of interest," Harger said. "Some people might prefer something like meditation. Somebody might want to try to learn how to do inversions in a safe environment. Maybe a focus more on the restorative practice or a vigorous vinyasa. So, we’ve got lots of options for people in each time slot, so they can really pick the thing that makes the most sense for them.”

There will also be booths to buy items including jewelry and clothing on Saturday.

Harger says they’re also accepting food and hygiene items but ask that you check out their Facebook page for welcomed items.
