SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Gov. Gary Herbert says Utah will pursue some form of Medicaid expansion but has put off announcing specifics on his decision.
Herbert announced at his monthly televised news conference on Thursday that "doing nothing" to expand the program was off the table.
Under the federal health law, states have the option of expanding eligibility for Medicaid, the state-federal program for low-income people.
If states expand the program to include people making up to 138% of the federal poverty level, the federal government is offering to pick up the full cost through 2016 and 90% after that.
Hebert has said he's worried Washington, D.C. may not keep that promise.
A state panel studying the issue recommended several options to partially expand the program.
Herbert says he'll announce his decision soon.
