Carla Astorga from Latino Behavioral Health Services joins us to talk about the services available to the Latinx members of our community to support people suffering through mental and emotional health issues in the Summit and Wasatch Counties, and the United in Recovery workshops that take place in Spanish every first and third Tuesday of the month from 6:30pm to 8:00pm via Zoom conference. 
 

There are now many services available to the Latinx members of our community to support people suffering through mental and emotional health issues in the Summit and Wasatch Counties. Yasmith Durath from CONNECT Summit County and Carla Astorga from Latino Behavioral Health Services join us to talk about the services available, the qualifications of the individuals providing support, and the many organizations providing aid.

The year 2020 has been very difficult for the overwhelming majority of people in many ways, and it is quite common that individuals may see the need of getting emotional assistance during this time.

Cada Domingo - José Santos - Prevent Child Abuse Utah

National attention is being paid to issues of child abuse and trafficking. José Santos joins us to talk about some of the many forms child abuse can take form, including sexual, emotional, and physical abuse, negligence, and many more. We spend the hour discussing some of the effects different types of abuse have on children, ways to help parents understand better parenting techniques, and the very real fact that most abuse of children happens at home.

The Mountain Mediation Center will be holding its first Spanish Speaking Community Conversation "Reimagining the Juvenile Justice System", in an effort to extend its services to the Hispanic and Latino members of our communities in Wasatch and Summit.

While we endure the COVID-19 crisis, it is important to also keep our mental health. Carla Astorga, NAMI Executive Comitee President for Summit and Wasatch Counties and Certified Aid Mentor Specialist with Latino Behavioral Health joins us to chat about some of the resources available, signs to look for in both adults and children, and shares multiple resourses.

  Jorge speaks with Carla Astorga of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), about classes by the NAMI program in Spanish "Family to Family" which begin Thursday,  September 6. There will be 12 sessions, each Thursday from 6:00pm to 8:30pm at the Park City Public Library at 1255 Park Avenue.
