Election 2020

Updated vote totals from Summit and Wasatch County saw Democrat Meaghan Miller inch closer to Republican Mike Kohler in the race for Utah House District 54. Miller still trails Kohler by about 1,800 votes.

Democrat Meaghan Miller gained just under 400 votes in the race for Utah House District 54 against Republican Mike Kohler as Summit County released their first batch of results since returning from a COVID-19 quarantine earlier this week. Miller still trails Kohler by 1,849 votes.

Voters on Tuesday approved a fundamental change to how public education is funded. Although the results are still unofficial, as of Thursday, Constitutional Amendment G has a 54% voter approval. KPCW’s Leslie Thatcher has details on what the change will do and why some say it’s a bad rap for education.

Amendment G - the education proposal was one of 7 constitutional amendments on Tuesday’s ballot and the most controversial.

While the state income tax has been growing every year, the state’s sales and gas taxes which fund the other government funds, have not.

The Summit County Clerk’s office is back at work today (Thursday) after all of the personnel tested negative for COVID-19.

On Monday, the Summit County Clerk's office announced that it would be in quarantine through Friday, due to a COVID-19 exposure in the office. On Thursday, council members received an update from County Clerk Kent Jones that they're back on the job.

Solid results in the hotly-contested Utah House District 54 race between Democrat Meaghan Miller and Republican Mike Kohler are on hold for the time being as the Summit County Clerk’s office is under quarantine until at least Friday. A clear picture in that race is days -- possibly weeks -- away, even with Kohler currently enjoying an unofficial lead of over 2,000 votes.

Utah’s House District 54 was decided by a razor-slim 162 votes in 2018 when Republican Tim Quinn defeated Democratic challenger Meaghan Miller.
