Park City Police Department

 A dump truck loaded with dirt, traveling down the upper Marsac Road on Thursday evening lost its brakes. An accident was avoided because the driver used the run-a-way truck ramp. Commercial vehicles have a propensity for non-compliance and safety issues are almost always found during traffic stop inspections. Park City’s vehicle inspector shared some details with KPCW.

Liberty Defense

Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes announced a partnership with security manufacturer Liberty Defense to begin beta testing new imaging technology in Utah. The scanners could be used at sports stadiums, schools and large events, like the ones Park City hosts. 

Orbea Rallon Mountain Bike

A high-end mountain bike stolen from a garage in Westminster, Colorado last fall was purchased in February on E-by by a person living in Park City. Recently, the bike was relisted on the website and was identified as the stolen bike. The Park City police department was notified of the posting and they set up an undercover operation to recover the mountain bike.

The Park City Police Department received reports of two separate bicycle thefts over the weekend. They also responded to an unusual alarm call with a Main Street jeweler.

Two mountain bikes were discovered missing from a car port on the 1100 block of Woodside Avenue on Friday morning. Park City Police Department Captain, Phil Kirk says the owner discovered the two bikes missing at 7 am and said they were locked but the cable had been cut. One was a red and black Diamondback Recoil. The second was a gold and black Specialized Crossover.

The Park City Police Department arrested two women and one man Tuesday for vehicle and retail theft. They’ve also been charged with possession of drugs and paraphernalia.  Carolyn Murray has this:

A Sundance parking attendant contacted the Park City Police Department while working in the Walgreens parking lot on Park Ave. They noticed odd behavior as the suspects made multiple trips back and forth to the car with what looked like stolen retail items. When the police arrived at the parking lot, the car pulled away.

Carmageddon Returns

Too many cars – all trying to get somewhere at the same time – created another Carmaggedon Thursday night with reports of up to an hour to drive from Silver Lake to Kearns Blvd. KPCW’s Leslie Thatcher has more.

Skiers exiting from Deer Valley and Park City Mountain Resorts as well as folks making their way to the store or dinner reservations got stuck in stand-still traffic Thursday and took some people an hour to drive less than 4 miles.

A Henderson, Nevada man was recently charged with multiple counts of Child Abuse after assaulting five children who were dressed as Zombies and part of a dance troupe performing at the Egyptian Theater in Park City in September.  He claims he was protecting his family and acted in self-defense. Summit County Sheriff's Department

The Park City Police Department responded to a domestic violence call on Tuesday at the Snow Country Condos at the 1150 block on Deer Valley Drive on the north side of City Park. No charges or arrests were made at the time. However, the incident turned more violent on Wednesday afternoon requiring a Negotiator and Swat Team to be called to the scene. Carolyn Murray has this report:


Thursday afternoon just after three o'clock, Park City police responded to a 911 call at Snow Country Condominiums.  According to a press release from the city, a domestic violence suspect had barricaded himself in a room and was making suicidal threats.   Police safely removed the victim from the incident and the suspect was taken into custody just after five o'clock.
