Citizens of the Wasatch Back were able to see Five candidates running to represent District 26 in the Utah Senate participated in a forum in Heber on June 13th. The event was sponsored by the Park City Unit of the League of Women Voters of Salt Lake. KPCW’s David Boyle has more:

The Park City Unit of the League of Women Voters, hosted the candidates for Senate District 26 in a forum in Heber City on Wednesday June 13th. Republic candidates Jack Rubin and Brian Gorum, Democratic candidates Pat Vaughn and Eileen Gallagher and United Utah candidate Cathy Callow-Heusser were all in attendance. Republican Primary Candidate Ron Winterton was unable to attend.

Ronald Winerton

KPCW presents the final of three interviews with the Republican primary candidates for Utah Senate District 26. Experience and backgrounds vary widely, with two candidates living in the Uintah Basin and one residing in Park City. This last interview is with sitting Duchesne County Commissioner Ronald Winterton, a lifelong resident of the Uintah Basin. Carolyn Murray has this: 

Senator Kevin Van Tassell is the outgoing 26th District representative.  He’s finishing 12 years in the Utah legislature representing an expansive swath of northeastern Utah.  The district includes five counties, some of which border Wyoming and Colorado.  The landscape and culture are diverse as are the interests and priorities of its 101,000 constituents.  Kevin Van Tassell provided KPCW with an update of his final session.  Carolyn Murray has this:

Wayne Stevens (D) is challenging incumbent Kevin Van Tassell for his Senate District 26 seat, and Stevens says he's a fighter, not a follower. He also says he's looking out for the people, not big business.

His main issue is fighting a proposed phosphate plant on state land that, he says, will endanger Vernal's water supply. Rick Brough has more.
