Soldier Hollow

The Utah Department of Environmental Quality reported Thursday that a boil order is in place for the Soldier Hollow Complex. The order was issued by the Charleston Water Conservancy District and includes Soldier Hollow Grill, golf course and the Olympic Venue.

The contamination of E. coli was detected Wednesday afternoon, and was a result of a construction accident on Tuesday that broke distribution pipes.

SoHo Bike Fest

The Soldier Hollow Bike Festival runs Thursday through Sunday. They’re expecting more than 600 mountain bike racers, including some of the best riders in North America. It’ll showcase top level mountain bike racing as well as an abundance of activities.

Soldier Hollow Bike Fest Race Director and Director of the Summit Bike Club,  MJ Turner has organized the four-day mountain bike stage race. This will be the third year and he says it’s ranked as an S-1 event with UCI cycling.

Skijoring Utah Instagram

Returning this Friday and Saturday to Soldier Hollow is Utah Skijoring. The event combines Utah’s ski heritage with its cowboy roots.

Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation

The movement for a 2030 Utah Winter Olympics is continuing to expand their footprint. Most recently a leader from the movement spoke with the Heber Valley Chamber of Commerce.

While speaking to the Heber Valley Chamber of Commerce at the Soldier Hollow Nordic Center, Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation Director Collin Hilton praised the center as a public amenity and as a laboratory for future Olympic athletes.

Park City is preparing to host the cities largest sporting event since the 2002 Winter Olympics, that event of course being the FIS World Championships the first week of February. Meanwhile the Soldier Hollow Nordic Center is also preparing for it’s largest sporting event since the ’02 Olympics.

Professional Mountain Biker, Keegan Swenson was born and raised in Park City. Last weekend, he took first place in a race that is one of the most competitive mountain bike events in pro off road racing.  Carolyn Murray has this. 

Updates to the Soldier Hollow Nordic Center have helped the facility stay viable in spite of the low snowfall. Shortly after the 2002 Olympics a tubing hill was built and it has provided an essential revenue stream that helps subsidize the Nordic facility.  Carolyn Murray has this:

The Tour of Utah just announced the route for this year's race and Park City isn't on the list.  However, Heber City is. The Tour dates this year are July 31 - August 6.   The race will start in Logan, then head to Brigham City and Snowbasin for Stage 2.  Stage 3 will feature individual time trials in Big Cottonwood Canyon.  South Jordan will host Stage 4.  Stage 5 will be in Davis County, starting in Layton City and ending in Bountiful.  Stage 6 will be in Heber Valley at Soldier Hollow and end at Snowbird.  The final stage will be in Salt Lake City.

The Soldier Hollow Legacy Foundation has a new director, Richard Hodges, who left his position on the Foundation's Board to take the new job. Rick Brough has more.

The man who helped create the Soldier Hollow Olympic venue and the financially sustaining recreation fixture it's become is retiring after a long career in the ski industry. KPCW's Leslie Thatcher has more.
