Summit County has received funding through the Rural County Grant program, which will be channeled into two initiatives to help local business.

The county’s Economic Development Advisory Board voted at their recent meeting to get the application process started.

The board members heard from Summit County Economic Development Director Jeff Jones, who said they had applied September 1st, and received a grant of $95,000.

He said the grant will go into two programs.   One will give aid to East Side businesses.

Summit County

Affordable housing continues to be an issue that local officials look to address.

Summit County and Park City affordable housing programs use a measuring stick of Area Median Income Summit County Economic Development Director Jeff Jones says that for housing purposes they look at targets that are 80% of the AMI and below.

Jones explains the unique challenge Summit County faces.

The Summit County Council recently presented their Economic Development Plan in a meeting in Salt Lake with Governor Gary Herbert.

The county’s Economic Development Director, Jeff Jones, talked to KPCW about some of their goals, some areas where they’ve made progress, and some of the continued challenges.

Jones said that Governor Herbert is asking all rural counties to present their plans. It’s part of his 25,000 Jobs Initiative, a project to help create that number of employment positions in rural areas in the next four years.
