The Summit County Republican Party has elected a new chair. Jennifer McDonald says she wants to get the base excited—and even wants to get Republicans involved in the 2019 local city races, which are non-partisan.

McDonald has been in the Park City area for about 25 years, and currently lives in the Ranch Place neighborhood.

She said she’s working to get Republican candidates to throw their hats in the ring. It’s hard to get people to step up but they’re talking to some possible contenders.

The Summit County Republican Party hosted a preview of the 2019 legislative session Tuesday, featuring State Sen. Ron Winterton and State Representatives Tim Quinn and Logan Wilde. They took questions from a dozen or so members of the public on a variety of topics, including the effects of the federal shutdown on Utahns. KPCW’s Emily Means has more.

The Republican State Convention was a culmination of a contentious year of GOP infighting. Reports emerged of bizarre speeches and candidates dressed like Lincoln, as well as sniping and arguing over the agenda and convention bylaws. Some delegates heckled one candidate and accused him of being disingenuous because he was sweeping miniature flag confetti from the convention floor. This came after the organizers blasted confetti throughout the hall to bid retiring Senator Orin Hatch farewell.
