In the latest news from the Summit County Sheriff’s Department, officers arrested a persistent liquor thief, and a reckless driver. But there were no leads, at this time, to a reported extortion via Facebook.

On Tuesday the 25th, officers got a report that a suspect was spotted, at the Utah State liquor store at Kimball Junction, believed to be involved in seven incidents of theft at the store. The report said he was arrested on Misdemeanor charges and identified as 57-year-old George Aaron Lucy of Holladay.

Among recent incidents in the Summit County Sheriff’s report, a single-car accident occurred at one of the county’s projects on Kilby Road.

And a dispute between motorists could almost be called road rage—except it happened in a parking lot.

On the morning of August 23rd, an employee with the county Public Works Department reported that a vehicle drove straight through the new roundabout in front of Ecker Hill Middle School and hit a cement barrier on the other side.

According to the Sheriff’s incident report, a woman in Pinebrook last Wednesday reported a case of Criminal Mischief. She said that overnight, the car belonging to her teenage son had been wrapped in plastic. It was also covered with kitty litter and condoms.

The vehicle sustained no physical damage. The report said there were no leads and no suspects.

Later, on Sunday, a woman said she was defrauded after she went on KSL.com and bought a tortoise. She said she made the purchase from an individual in Vernal and sent the suspect $350 to have the animal shipped to her.

Searchers in the High Uintas on Tuesday afternoon found the body of a Salt Lake Valley resident who has been missing for nearly a week.

The search located 66-year-old Ray Humpherys in the Middle Fork drainage area, about a mile and a half from where he had last been seen.

Summit County Sheriff Deputies arrested a suspect in the Newpark area for trying to break into two cars. One of those was a marked Sheriff’s vehicle. The suspect claimed to officers that he was confused.

The suspect was identified as a 34-year-old Salt Lake City resident, Journey Rose. Rose was arrested on Tuesday.

Lieutenant Andrew Wright said two deputies were notified by a passer-by that Rose was trying to get into their police vehicle. Lt. Wright said the vehicle was running, because some of their cars can now be started remotely, but it was locked.
