Uinta Mountains

Join PC Recreation for a trip into the Uinta Mountains on February 27 from 5-9pm. A full-moon snowshoe excursion will feature a fun out-and-back hike followed by light snacks and hot cocoa. U.S. Forest Service

The East Fork Fire in the Uinta Mountains continues to burn. The U.S. Forest Service is now reporting the blaze is 15% contained.

 

The U.S. Forest Service reported as of Sept. 12th the fire has burned nearly 47,000 acres in the Uinta Mountains. High winds earlier in the week led to increased fire activity and saw the fire grow and combine with the nearby Phinney Lake Fire.

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and the Ashley National Forest have plans to reintroduce the native Colorado cutthroat trout into a handful of areas in the High Uintas Wilderness and Uinta Mountains in northeastern Utah.

The environmental impact study is now open for public comment.

Moose in Iron Canyon -Dave Cushing

Seeing Moose in this part of the Wasatch Back is common.  Spotting moose on the trails is one thing but in Park City, they’re often seen wandering up Swede Alley or grazing in the round-about on Deer Valley Drive.  Some of Utah’s wildlife experts are keeping watch on the moose that inhabit the region from Parley’s Canyon to Duchesne.  

The Summit County Sheriff's Office has released a description of a naked, masked man who is believed to have been intruding on campgrounds in the Uintas as far back as summer of last year. Now they're asking for the public's help to track down the suspect. Rick Brough has more.
