On This Green Earth, Nell and Chris bring you an inside look at a new type of pavement created from plastics.

Each year in the US, millions of tons of plastic waste are discarded and not recycled, leading to serious environmental problems. In an effort to help keep this waste from ending up in the environment, University of Missouri engineers are partnering with Dow and the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) to design a new road pavement mixture using plastic waste. It is now being tested along a nearly two-mile stretch of Stadium Boulevard in Columbia, Missouri.

Coming on to speak about this is Dr. Bill Buttlar, the Glen Barton Chair in Flexible Pavements in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Missouri.
