John and Lynn’s first guest is Mark O’Connell who has written THE CLOSE ENCOUNTERS MAN: How One Man Made the World Believe in UFOs. The book is about Dr. J. Allen Hynek responsible for coining the phrase “close encounters of the third kind” Hynek enthusiastically debunked UFO reports on behalf of the Air Force for years. Then, he changed teams. The book is about his transformation from skepticism to true believer and the actual UFO stories he investigated. The2nd guest this morning is Mary Roach who has written GRUNT: The Curious Science of Humans at War. Roach the author of Stiff, Spook, Bonk, Packing for Mars, and Gulp—now explores those aspects of war that no one makes movies about—not the killing but the keeping alive. Much of military science is preoccupied with the study of violence, the development of strategy, of weapons and armaments, of warfare.
