A snowplow collided with the I-80 overpass in between the roundabouts at Pinebrook and Jeremy Ranch Wednesday night.

The snowplow was clearing eastbound I-80 when it got off the exit at lower Pinebrook to move to the westbound portion of the highway. The truck’s bed was raised for an unknown reason, according to Utah Department of Transportation spokesperson John Gleason.

Gleason said when the plow drove through the I-80 underpass on Homestead Road around 8 p.m., the bed of the truck collided with the overpass above it.

“Fortunately, no one was injured, and there’s no damage to the bridge,” Gleason said. “We’re still looking over the damage to the snowplow. The bed of the snow plow was separated from the rest of the truck.”

Gleason said an inspector deemed the bridge safe after the collision.

“There are no structural issues with the bridge, and there’s no future work that needs to be done on it,” he said. “The bridge wasn’t compromised at all.”

UDOT will conduct a review with the plow driver to determine exactly what went wrong.

Cars were allowed to travel through the underpass around 9:30 p.m., and the scene was cleared by 11:30 p.m.
