A Henderson, Nevada man was recently charged with multiple counts of Child Abuse after assaulting five children who were dressed as Zombies and part of a dance troupe performing at the Egyptian Theater in Park City in September. He claims he was protecting his family and acted in self-defense. Carolyn Murray has this:
On September 22, Drew Stephen Hyde, a resident of Henderson, Nevada is accused of assaulting five female juveniles. He’s charged with punching one 14-year old in the face, shoving a 16-year old down the stairs, grabbing another 16-year old by the back of the neck and pushing her down stairs, grabbing and pushing another 15-year old in the same manner and punching a 13-year old in the chest.
The Dance Company has offered limited comment on the case. Typically, the dancers, dressed as Zombies, are instructed to mingle with pedestrians on Main Street as part of the marketing of the show Thriller which has played for 23 years at Park City’s Egyptian Theater during the Halloween season.
Daryl Yaeger is the founder and Artistic Director of Odyssey Dance Theater and provided a prepared statement saying the Zombies are instructed to mix with patrons and if they are not welcome, they are instructed to withdraw. Court documents show no details indicating if the guidelines were violated.
Neither Hyde, nor his attorney have returned KPCW's calls.
Hyde was released on $10,000-dollar bail and will appear in Summit County Third District Court on November 26th.
